Sankt Hans 2013 – The DBC Midsummer Party
As you know, the search for a new venue for Sct. Hans has been intensive. We have been in all corners of the city, and finally we think we have found the right spot. “Apple garden” within the leisure park Lata Treck. http://www.spusk.ru/ Apple garden is a fenced territory, so we will have all the privacy we need. It is in walking distance from the metro, in a very nice area of Moscow. There will be plenty of room for all our odd Danish traditions such as witch burning, bonfire and songs. More information will follow in separate invitation at your earliest convenience.
But please reserve now the 22nd of June in your calendar if you have not already done it!

Lego and Mogens Laursen's Russian experience
LEGO and Mogens Laursen’s Russian experience On May 21st a score of DBC’s members spent an inspiring evening with LEGO’s Russian boss who frankly spoke about and discussed LEGO’s challenges on the Russian market and how his organization meets them. Though based on a professional PowerPoint presentation, the meeting can be characterized as more like an informal dialogue and discussion rather than one-way communication. This, in combination with Mogens’ motivating and dynamic style, made the evening extremely profitable and the participants went home with important lessons learned. Many thanks to Mogens and LEGO for the great support of DBC through this business event!

Membership Survey Some more food for thought from the Membership Survey.
Further to the article in DBC News no. 2, you will be able to read Some thoughts instigated by the membership survey – a document which, it is to be hoped, will be the starting point of discussions among DBC’s members. You will find the document at the below mentioned Members Only Section. The thoughts described in the document deals with important questions regarding the priorities of DBC, its events and activities. Business events have been defined as the ones of paramount importance to the members – of course, many would say, but there are slight differences of meaning regarding social aspects, as expressed by some members. Family events such as Midsummer Party and Christmas party are in general considered as important though with a considerable lower importance than business events. For many, however, the two family events seem institutionalized. Life Conditions for Danes in Moscow – what are the felt needs for DBC’s role in these aspects? Social events and networking such as Stambord and cultural events are being discussed. There is some ambivalence among members in their view on Stambord’s importance to them. Read about the thoughts in the document. Work groups for selected members and the felt needs for them, again, are met by ambivalence of many members mainly because they doubt that Danes can deal with these heavy tasks. Do we suffer from a feeling of inferiority? The ideas of an advisory board and a website discussion forum aren't met with any interest by the members. On the contrary they may be considered as dead. The idea of increasing DBC’s fees is supported by a majority of members. But there are reservations due to the needs for quality improvement of the business aspects of events. Also, the sponsorship budget should be considered together with the plans for increased fees. As Danes, we take pride in our habit of open and frank discussions of any topic. Therefore, visit DBC’s homepage and express your opinion about the questions touched upon above. See the created thread in discussion forum called Closer Interaction with Members in the Members Only section. |

Sponsorships needed!
DBC has enough funds to start with a general activity level, but the direction needs to be clarified and additional funds are required. Mid-summer event requires additional funds for venue as the Embassy’s Dacha is no longer available Intentions of creating quality events requires additional funding. Furthermore we have ambitions of arranging events with key note speakers, that we most likely not will be able to convince to prepare speaking for a couple of bottles of wines. Based on the survey results and general levels of activities we will be contacting selected corporate members for a discussion of sponsorships. If you would be interested in such, please contact Kristian.lyhne@mail.tele.dk |

Members opinion in the recent survey |
Sponsorships needed! |
Help needed |
Dear members of the Danish Business Club in Moscow, |
|
|
|
Since our last edition of DBC News we have been very busy and are delighted to be able to share some of the efforts with you in this edition. The past couple of months have unfortunately also included a disappointment with not being able to conduct our event with Chris Weafer. However it was clearly explained to us that Chris was unable in participating. We have since that been working on building a pipeline of alternative events with business content and are happy to say that it is starting to take shape. Enjoy the reading.
|
Preliminary findings:
One of the most important tasks for the board is to define the future direction of DBC’s activities with the objective of better meeting the needs and expectations of its members. Important inputs in this respect are the results of the survey carried out since 26 March. We wish to thank those of our members who have taken the time to fill in the questionnaire and are grateful to receive response from 45 members. – a much higher number than what could be expected.

Fundraising:

Interesting results from DBC’s membership survey
Now the response has to be analysed and conclusions must be made for use in DBC’s events’ and other planning. There are, however, some results we would like to share with you at this early stage. The respondents have expressed the following scores of the events and topics in the questionnaire (scores are shown as numbers on a scale from 1 to 6, where 1 means low and 6 means high importance):
1. Events about business, financial and economic development, average score 4,7
2. Family entertainment events such as Midsummer and Christmas parties, average score 4,2
3. Other events relevant to the life conditions of Danes in Moscow, average score 4,1
4. Social, networking and cultural events such as Stambord, cultural events etc., average score 4,0
5. Industry relevant work groups selected among members, average score 3,9
6. Advisory board selected among members, average score 3,3
7. Website discussion forum for members, average score 2,9
Increase of fee for company membership, from 6.000 to 12.000 RUB p.a., answer ‘yes’ 50%
Increase of fee for individual membership, from 2.000 to 4.000 RUB p.a., answer ‘yes’ 60%
Event fees for members (with speakers of substantial standing) average in RUB 966
Event fees for members’ guests, average in RUB 1.342
Needless to say that we will not increase the fees mentioned neither tomorrow nor next month. The figures are merely an indication of members’ tolerance and it must be added here that we have received supplementary comments that acceptance of the higher fees is based on expectations of quality improvement of DBC’s events and activities.
In the near future the full results of the survey will be placed on the website! |

A helping hand – New venue for DBC Midsummer Party
The temperatures are increasing and the days are getting longer, and due to this we are getting closer to the big and popular DBC Midsummer Party! The latest years we have had the pleasure to borrow the fantastic Dacha of our Danish Embassy. Unfortunately this venue will not be a possibility for this year Midsummer Party. At the moment we are checking several venues and trying to find something, which will match the stunning surroundings we are used to have at the Dacha. If anyone of you, dear members, have any good ideas or suggestions, we would appreciate to hear your thoughts. Please be so kind, to send your suggestions to; helena@bollesen.dk. |

Event calendar
One of the aims of the new board is to keep an updated calendar of things at interest going on in Moscow. Of course somehow with Danish angle. At the moment we will like to draw your attention to the Rotary Charity dinner, organized by DBC member Erik Stenfeldt. In order not to spam, we will only send direct e-mail invitations regarding DBC events. But if you have anything you think will interest the Danish community, please send us the information and we will put it into the calendar. Remember the Danish angle, otherwise the calendar will be long, Moscow is a busy town. If it is convenient time wise we will put a link here in the newsletter. So remember to keep an eye on the calendar “insert link”, as soon as anything shows up we will naturally publish it. To find details of the Rotary Charity dinner and see all events, please follow this link |

Restaurant Scandinavia will be presenting some small complimentary dishes, which we can enjoy with the “Two for one-bar”. We are looking forward seeing you all to a lot of networking in a relaxed atmosphere on 2nd of May 19.00 hrs. . |

a message from the new Board |
Jazz with DBC! |
Closer interaction with members |
Dear members of the Danish Business Club in Moscow, |
|
|
|
At the General Assembly on January 31st 2013, the election of five new board members was taking place.
Following the General Assembly the initial and constituent board meeting was held on February 4th 2013 with full participation of all newly elected board members.
Read more in the below section "New Board"
|
We would like to thank all members for your trust in letting us lead DBC and facilitate events and activities that support the objectives of the business club.
The first board meeting was conducted and new roles and responsibilities have been agreed.
This can be found in the below section "New Board". |
There is a Danish Jazz Concert on the 28th of February. This will replace this month’s Stambord event. A separate invitation will follow with further details.
The monthly Stambord is for all members as well as for newcomers and for members to invite guests that might be of interest to other members.
Read more about events in "Upcoming Events". |
At the constituent board meeting it was a commonly shared opinion, that we should ask members of DBC about what is expected from the business club. What you:
- Are missing?
- Would like to see more of?
- Would like to see less of?

State of DBC Finances
The balance sheet presented at the general assembly together with the revenue recieved in January 2013 are sufficient to get DBC started with its first activities in 2013. That being said then there is no doubt that DBC needs further funding for the ambitious activities and events in the pipeline for 2013. We therefore urge members to pay there due membership fee (if not done already) and to help by sponsoring or fundraising for the future events and activities. In 2012, DBC had challenges in getting the Danish bank account established. This has now been solved. This means that easy ways of paying membership fees have now been established. It also gives a clear opportunity to make donations, we would like to add! The bank details and payment instructions can be retrieved by contacting the secretary. |
|
|
Closer Interaction with members
We think that there ought to be much more active involvement of the members regarding contents and funding of the club’s activities. Also, we expect that the majority of members will endorse the idea of making around half of the events more business oriented, whereas the other half contribute with social, cultural & networking events.
It is with this in mind that the board decided to establish a Membership Relations function, aiming at getting a clear understanding of what the members feel they should get from DBC. The first step will be to collect viewpoints from members about your felt needs.
It will be in the form of a questionnaire supplemented with interviews with selected members. Some of you can expect to be contacted soon and we are encouraging you to voice your opinion. Finally, we are of the opinion that closer relations with the members can be achieved through a selected small group of members who are able and willing to act as an advisory board for the club and whose task is broadly to ensure that the club’s activities respond to members’ felt needs. More to follow!
|
|

|
Stambord
The board has decided that in the future, the monthly Stambord will be organized by DBC’s board members and invitations will be sent out around a week prior to the event. Drinks will be on members’ and guests’ own expense, unless the venue is contributing to the evening. Of course, we will try to organize such contribution. |
|
 |
Upcoming Events:
We are happy to announce that in the near future we have some very interesting events coming up. On the 14th of March, there is an official delegation from Tartarstan and the official Tartarstan days will start. DBC will have access to a limited number of tickets. Chris Weafer, Sberbank’s well-known Chief Strategist, will be giving his view on the global economy's impact on Russia today and in the future. He will also be presenting essential findings of a survey of the Russian middle-class, its shopping behavior and its perceptions and plans of the future economic development – the so-called Ivanov Consumer Confidence Tracker. We are sure that Chris, as always, will have some extra, interesting insights up his sleeve. More info to follow! These events are being worked on at the moment, needs confirmation and separate invitations will be sent out accordingly with further information on the details.
